Middle school – The nature of pre-teens Understanding teens is a key to being able to meet their needs. Each adolescent is a unique individual and needs us as significant adults in their lives to go through these difficult years with them using a wide variety of techniques and strategies. Adolescence is a period of extremes. It is even more complex because it is a period in a teen’s life when they want to be someone and no one at the same time and realize it themselves. This confusion, self-doubt, peer influence, and need for personal autonomy causes a stormy period in their lives. We must remember this is a time, not a lifetime, between childhood and adulthood; a time that has a lot of special needs, with patience, understanding, guidance and consistency leading the list of special needs. |
