Interest Inventory

Everyone has a starting point in choosing a career. You will probably change careers several times during your lifetime. Eighth graders at LCMA are administered the EXPLORE®, an educational planning tool to begin this search for a career. EXPLORE® is designed to help students explore a broad range of options for the future. This process will begin in November with the administration of the test. We will conclude this process for 8th grade by planning and discussing your child’s four-year plan for high school in February. Through EXPLORE®, sstudents’ strengths and weaknesses can be identified early, when they still have the opportunity to complete a high school course of study that will help them achieve their career and educational goals.
There are many free planning tools and career connections available on the Internet for you and your students’ use.

SQ3R
(Survey, Question, Read, Restate, and Review)

SQ3R is an organized reading approach which helps students learn the most content from written material.

  • Survey. Have your child quickly look over a reading assignment and notice what it is about. Some clues to point out are headings, pictures and bold type.
  • Question. Next, they should think of questions about the material. For example: Who was the main character? When did the story take place?
  • Read. See if your child can find answers to his questions by reading the assignment. They can take notes as they read.
  • Restate. Now have your child summarize what he/she read. Ask him/her questions to jog their memory about the material.
  • Review. The last step is to look over the material again. This can be done immediately or later.
