1996 Teacher of the Year
Alisa DeBorde

Mrs. Alisa DeBorde began her teaching career at Lakeland Middle Academy (now Lawton Chiles Middle Academy) in 1994. During her three years at LMA, she taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade language arts. In 1997 she left LMA to try her hand at teaching high school English. For the next three years, she taught 10th and 11th grade English at Mulberry High School and Bartow International Baccalaureate. Presently, she teaches a writing course at Polk Community College, is pursuing her master's degree in literature at the University of South Florida, and spends much time caring for her seven-month-old daughter. These activities take much of Alisa's time, yet she is also very involved in her church, Crosstown Community, where she works with the drama and fine arts team. Although for now she stays home to care for her daughter, Alisa hopes to continue her English training to prepare for an eventual full time return to the classroom.
