Mr. Townsend has taught 7th and 8th grade social studies for 7 years in addition to an Introduction to Speech class, Stock Market/Economics class, and an Intergraded Lab class over the years.

He has sponsored the History Fair Club, Environmental Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as well as coached the 8th grade E-Team. He has served on the School Advisory Council, School Technology Committee, School Safety Committee, the Portfolio Committee, and the Polk County Strategic Initiative for Family Involvement.

He is a member of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS), the Florida Council for the Social Studies (FCSS), Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), Polk Vision, and Lakeland Vision.

Mr. Townsend graduated from West Virginia State College in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and the University of South Florida in 2003 with a Master's degree in Educational Leadership.
